October Is Disability History & Awareness Month

Disability History & Awareness Month is an annual, month-long observance of the history of the disability rights movement, and commemoration of the achievements of disabled people. This year, for Disability History & Awareness Month, Prescott School District substitute teacher Jess Tourtellotte has shared some of her personal story with us and with our students. Jess is a strong advocate for people with disabilities. Since she is someone we know and whom our students know, her work has great impact and personal relevance for us. We are so very appreciative that Jess took the time to put two different videos for us – one for elementary students and one for secondary students. Both can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/y4opndfw

We encourage all students, their families, our teachers, and our community members to help raise awareness of the abilities of all persons, not only in October but throughout the year. Further information and educational resources can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/y3fwcf4n
