Chromebook Collection: Prescott will be collecting student Chromebooks and chargers at the following times: Wednesday, August 12 9-11am Vista Gym; 1-3pm Prescott School Thursday, August 13 9-11am Prescott School; 1-3pm Vista Gym All students, who have a chromebook please try to return them this week. All chromebooks will be cleaned and repaired and then re checked out when school begins again in the fall. If you can not return your chromebook at one of the above times, please email jfoertsch@prescott.k12.wa.us and let him know. Prescott School District will be opening school this fall under a board approved distance learning model based on the guidelines set out for Washington schools by Governor Jay Inslee, State Superintendent Chris Reykdal, the Washington State Department of Health, and the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health. Our county has seen a dramatic increase in COVID 19 infection rates. Currently, in our county, the transmission rate is five times higher than what has been identified as safe to begin returning to school. This metric is based on national and international health data of schools and community transmission. Our initial plan was to return to full day, on-site learning this fall. This plan was always flexible given any change in our community health status. Our status indicates it is not safe, yet, for our students and staff to fully return to school on-site. PSD’s Distance Learning Model this fall will be very different from our learning in spring of 2020. It will be more rigorous, with increased expectations for student attendance, engagement, and academic performance. PSD will continue to plan to provide additional options and support for its most vulnerable and struggling students. Many of these students will have access to onsite instruction in a five student to one teacher support model. Superintendent Justin Bradford expressed to staff earlier today, “My heart breaks that we will not be returning to school right away. However, I know that PSD staff will continue to rise up and provide a phenomenal experience for students that embraces and addresses the academic, social, and emotional well-being of each student.” Mr. Bradford also acknowledged that schools do not operate in isolation, and that this difficult decision affects every child, every household, and every member of the greater Prescott School District. Student and staff safety is our first priority, and this model will help support that priority. As we decrease transmission rates, we will begin to return to our buildings safely. Detailed information about district plans for remote learning will be shared with our community before school starts this fall. We appreciate the support of our students, our staff and our families. Students can drop off your textbooks and library books at our meal stops, for Prescott at 8:30 am – 9:30 am and Vista at 9:30 am – 10:30 am this week only. Also, if you want to come clean out your locker, you can stop by between 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. Consistent with state guidance, high school students will receive an A through D grade. High school students that are unable to complete on-line coursework will be given an incomplete grade and additional time to complete classes.
